Schools Work

A Wide Open Door

In this day and age, where can you find hundreds of unbelievers gathered together and willing to listen to the gospel? Where can you find great crowds of people to whom you can teach the Bible? In our local primary schools! What an opportunity! Hundreds of children with immortal souls, all hearing the glorious news of Jesus Christ. By God’s grace, we have been able to enter a large number of local schools this year and have been allowed to teach the gospel in their assemblies. Since the end of February, I have been assisted in this work by Andrew Evans; together, we have had the privilege of explaining the good news to thousands of children!

Typically, we are given about twenty minutes in each school and we don’t have to ‘water down’ the message. We are able to teach about sin, punishment and repentance, as well as God’s love and mercy in Jesus Christ. As long as we are accurately communicating what “the Bible teaches” (which is our sole authority anyway), we have freedom to declare the truth. Usually, we will communicate the gospel by telling a visually aided story, from which we will explain the core truths of salvation. Accurate answers to questions at the end show that the children have been listening and taking in what we have been saying. What a joy to stand in front of so many lost children (usually the whole school) and tell them about Jesus!

What a privilege to pass on gospel truths to the next generation! “One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts” (Psalm 145:4).

Altogether,we have had the opportunity to take 84 assemblies in 16 local schools. Many people have asked which schools have been visited, so here is a complete list, together with the number of assemblies we have been able to take:

Hawthorn Junior (16), Rhydypenau (9),Willowbrook (8),Glan-Yr-Afon (7), Gabalfa (6), Bishop Childs (5), Glyn Coed Infants (5), Pen-Y-Bryn (5), St.Monica’s (5),Allensbank (3), Bryn Hafod (3), Lakeside (3),Ton- Yr-Ywen (3),Albany (2), Glyn Coed Junior (2), Roath Park (2).

God has been extremely good to us in opening such a wide door for the gospel. God willing, I shall be visiting all the schools again next year and I hope to access some additional schools as well. Please pray that God would powerfully use the seed that has been sown and that He would graciously open many young hearts to the gospel. Pray also that He would continue to grant us access into these schools and give us many more opportunities to declare the joyful message of salvation.
