Getting up in the morning is never an easy task; even more difficult is having to do it on a weekend. However, one sure way to help that feeling of tiredness to vanish in an instant is the smell of a freshly cooked breakfast. This is why, at 8.30am on the final Saturday in March, about 40 men of all ages gathered in the church hall. The majority were those that attended the church on a regular basis; it was really good to have an opportunity to get chatting to those who you see each week but don’t know all that well; there were also a few new faces and it was great to share the breakfast table with people that perhaps hadn’t heard the Gospel before. The food was outstanding, freshly prepared in the kitchen by a team who were obviously very experienced in cooking for men, providing both the quality and quantity that merited the struggle to get out of bed that Saturday morning.
Once everyone had finished their breakfast, loosened their belt and were onto another mug of coffee, there was a chance to share the Gospel from the front. This was done clearly and passionately, challenging even those that had heard the Gospel each week since an early age, with the prayer being that those who do not know the truth would go on to accept Jesus Christ as their Saviour for themselves.
This was an encouraging event overall, being able to extend fellowship with not only those you’d previously never met but also with brothers in Christ, with whom you share so much in common, but that you hardly know.
