This summer seven of us went out to Moldova to work alongside the local Christians and help out with a camp at Badiceni, an institution for people with disabilities. After an arduous 20-hour journey - including a white-knuckle road trip from Bucharest to Chisinau - we were met with a warm welcome, lots of watermelon, and cups of black tea. The first few days were busy. Aled and Carwyn did some DIY at Casa Matei, including building a duck pen out of odds and ends, with virtually no tools! Alice and I stayed with the women at Casa Bucurei, where we did some card-making, painted the ceilings and cut the grass in the vineyard. Matt Payne then joined us and Maureen and Christine for the camp the following week.
The camp itself was challenging but rewarding. Every morning we would give a short Gospel talk, somebody would give a testimony, and we would sing songs in English, Russian and Romanian. We had a very multicultural team, yet it was wonderful to be so united in our purpose to spread the Gospel! We also did various sports and crafts activities with the people of Badiceni - a great way to spend time with such neglected people, and show them God’s love practically. It was a fantastic privilege to work alongside our brothers and sisters in Moldova, and we pray that God will continue to bless the work there.
