Valencia, January – February 2021

Dear Friends,

Greetings from Valencia, trusting in the Lord for a blessed 2021. What a contrast from our last prayer letter regarding the weather. Filomena, so it is called, has arrived in Spain and we are all freezing; still Valencia has been spared from heavy snowfall, in fact not one flake has fallen on our city. It is a relief and we are thankful to the Lord for these mercies. It reminded me of that Biblical story of Goshen being spared when the Lord punished Pharaoh and the Egyptians as the plagues were unleashed. How we wished to call Valencia our Goshen!

The Lord is still in control and we are so glad. The sense of inadequacy remains: How to proceed in this new year? What do we do to continue functioning as a visible church? Are these restrictions of confinement beyond us? These questions are not easily answered, but in our own pursuit of finding God’s answer we have come to a conclusion. We need His wisdom, and searching in our own study of James in our Sunday morning services online, we have come to a petition that He will not deny us: “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given.” James 1:5 So this is our prayer request for 2021.

We continue with our present prayer meetings on Thursday, and thank God for this time in His presence. It is an encouragement for the church (just a few 30%) and it is bringing an understanding of being church: caring for one another and making provision for the needed. The social work continues with 170 families registered on our list. In the following weeks we shall carry out interviews and the elaboration of social reports. Give thanks for the volunteers. The youth work is prospering and we are preparing the next generation into a role of leadership, for that purpose, we have a couple of discipleship courses currently running on Tuesdays. Pray for commitment.

Editorial Peregrino has been kept by the Lord in a very unusual way. We have received regular support including financial assistance from the government and gifts from churches and individuals. The production of new books in 2020 has gone in accordance to plans, including Helen’s book (https://protestantedigital.com/fragmentos/55188/lazos-de-oro in Spanish). Continue to pray for the Board of Directors in their deliberations for a strategy that honours the Lord and the production of good reformed books. The Conference Passion for the Gospel went well with John Piper speaking (online) on the joy of the believer.

Thanks for your prayers as a family, Helen has been kept and our boys in pursuit of a job position. Here we are smiling:

Thanks for being there.
